This year, I’ve had one big personal goal: To stick with my healthy routines – even when life gets hard and busy.
To take much better care of myself. To feel my best every day, to feel more confident, balanced and energized. I mentioned this before, but I struggled with sticking to a fitness routine for years. I wanted to be fit, but I didn't like working out. I wanted to take care of my body but I just couldn’t seem to be consistent. I would start a workout plan and fall off it within a few weeks.
Having a weekly routine and finding the exercises I loved have helped me so much in achieving this goal. If you want to really stick with your goals, start by creating simple routines that work for your lifestyle. Stop setting unrealistic goals and setting yourself up for failure. It is so much easier to create a body and life you love when you have realistic routine and the right mindset.
I now see exercise as a form of self care. It’s so much more than how I look in the mirror. I exercise to feel GOOD, strong, and healthy. I believe that feeling happy and healthy inside is just as important as how we look from the outside.
MY CURRENT FITNESS ROUTINE
My favorite ways to move are Pilates, walking and hiking in nature. I love Pilates because it focuses on core strength and creating strong, lean muscles. Switching to these mindful exercises from HIIT/bootcamp workouts has completely transformed my mind and body. I am so much calmer, happier and healthier. Also, I’m in the best shape of my life.
I do mat Pilates 3-4 times at home following the LSP flows. They are only 20-30 minutes long, which is realistic and sustainable for my busy days. You’d be surprised how much time and money you can save by working out at home – it’s life changing. I genuinely enjoy rolling my mat and moving at the comfort of my home.
If you’re looking for a simple and effective exercise routine at home, I highly suggest trying Pilates. It might be intimidating at first, but once you get the gist of it, you’ll get better at it and it’ll completely transform your body.
I try to take at least one Reformer Pilates class a week. Reformer is one of the best ways to strengthen and lengthen your entire body. And it’s a fun and challenging workout that complements my mat practice. I also enjoy going to yoga with friends. This doesn't happen on a regular basis, but ideally I’d do yoga once a week.
On the weekends, we always go for walks outside. My favorite things is to talk with my husband about life and our goals on these long walks in nature. I always feel so much more alive and inspired after spending time in nature. We leave our phones at home and disconnect from the digital world. This gives me a break from social media and really connect with myself, my family and friends.
Another practice that has transformed my life is meditating everyday. To be honest, I’ve always had a hard time with it. But this year I really pushed myself to be consistent with it. I try to meditate for 10 minutes before Pilates. I wanted to include meditation here because it really improves your mind-body connection. The benefits I’ve seen has been life changing.
