Since I started working for myself two years ago, I have learned how important it is to take the time to set your mind and body up for a successful day. In this post, I’m sharing 5 simple things to do in the morning to feel happy, calm, and in charge of your day.

At the age of 25, I moved to the US—to the other side of the world from Turkey—to get my master’s degree. After finishing my M.A degree in Education at the University of San Francisco, I found myself questioning what I really wanted to do with my life. I wasn't very passionate about my job or future career in Linguistics. I started to doubt every decision I made about my life, ended up going through a bad quarter life crisis.
As if that wasn't enough, we had to cancel our wedding in Turkey that summer... because we lost our passports. We were not allowed to reenter the States if we left the country. Anxiety and depression hit me even harder. I was desperate to see my family, was terribly homesick and really hated my life in US. I didn't have a close circle of girlfriends and no job to look forward to in the morning. I just wanted to quit everything and reevaluate my life's purpose. During this soul ( and career) searching phase, I took the following four simple steps:

There are many aspects to a happy and healthy life than just exercising and eating vegetables. Relationships, career, and spirituality are just as important to your health as the food you eat. I really believe in this and take a holistic approach to living a healthy lifestyle.
After a summer of serious soul searching, I found myself questioning what I really wanted out of my life and what it was that I truly enjoy. Do I just wanna get a "job" and drag myself out of bed every morning and look forward to 5pm to go home? Everyday, for the rest of my life? Have you ever felt that way? So, it turns out there's actually a very popular phenomena called quarter life crisis, the 20 something version of a midlife crisis.

So, I'm here to say you are not out of your mind! What you're going through is very normal. And you are certainly NOT alone. Millions of successful and happy people go through this phase every year. Good news is there are plenty of ways to go through this trial and just make it a little easier to cope with.
Do the work that comes from your heart.
I was just thinking about this, and wanted to share a quote I find helpful in easing my mind: "Don’t be scared to switch paths or pave a new one. Do the work that comes from your heart! Remember, it’s always better to be at the bottom of the ladder you want to climb than the top of the one you don’t."
Reading this was just so empowering and I felt like I wasn't alone in this, you know. Maybe I wasn't crazy and my feelings were real and valid!
