The most important health & wellness habit I've formed is meditation. Meditation helped me connect with my body and mind to understand myself better. It helped me become happier, healthier, more peaceful and more focused in every area of my life. I'm not perfect at it, but I've learned a lot since I started. How I started my meditation practice? Sitting in silence and doing nothing was the hardest thing to do for me. I thought I can never meditate because my mind would never stop. It turns out everyone has a similar story. We are all constantly thinking, criticizing, feeling and planning things. Good news is you don't need to completely silence or control your mind to start meditating. That is why it's called "practice". All you need to do is just start. Here are my tips to help you start your practice. :) 5 Meditation Tips For Beginners1. Start With Two Minutes.
Make it easy for yourself to start. Sit for just two minutes a day for a week. Find a comfortable position. Start taking deep breaths. Inhale through your nose, and exhale through your mouth. If and when your mind starts to wander, gently accept it without judgment. It's only natural for our brain to wander. Simply come back to your breath when this happens. When you feel ready, increase this time to 5 or 10 minutes a day. 2. Do it in the morning. Make meditation the first piece of your morning routine. Set a reminder for every morning when you wake up to practice. What's better than starting your day with practicing mindfulness and preparing your mind for the day ahead, right? 3. Let Go Of Any & All Frustrations. Leave behind what happened before or what will happen after your practice. The only thing you need to focus is just the present moment, the "now", when you're meditating. Find a peaceful and calm space in your mind. Stay in the moment just breathing. You can deal with everything else when the time comes. 4. You are NOT doing it wrong. You will worry you are doing it wrong. We all do. It' okay if you are not sure how to sit perfectly or how to find the perfect time to practice. There's no perfect way to do it. Just pick a quiet and comfortable space in your house. Sit however you feel most comfortable. There might be some background noise. It's totally okay. You can still meditate. Don't seek total silence or perfection. You may still want to silence your phone, though! :) 5. Give yourself love. Just be happy and appreciate the time you are taking for yourself. As you meditate, you will get to know yourself and how your mind works. Be friendly during this process. Give yourself love and compassion, not criticism. Starting meditation can seem hard and impossible. But it is so worth it and has so many amazing benefits. You can start today. All you need is just two minutes. :) Are you new to meditation?
